Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Some 40 clubs from among Kreisliga Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck and Kirchhellen threaten for the first match of the Kreisliga A in 2009 on 1 March did not compete.
Reason for the strike: The amateur clubs want to protest against the early league game on Sunday at 15.30 clock from next season. Because the clubs are afraid viewers shrinkage.
The Vice-President of the German Football League (DFL), Peter Peters, asked for some understanding. "It had taken hard decisions and compromises to keep competitive, the Bundesliga. The appeal of a sport increasingly depends on the popularity of their draft horses - just the professional football clubs in football -" the Schalke 04's Managing Director said.
For the representatives of the small clubs, the statement is unsatisfactory. They now want a network with the neighboring soccer circles Bochum, Dortmund, Recklinghausen, Herne, and Hagen founded to voice their protest even more weight.
